#1. Morey Mach 7 [Overall Best]

Morey Mach 7

The Morey Mach 7 is one of the most popular boogie boards out there.  Its brand, Morey Board Boards, gets its name from the father of boogie boarding, Tom Morey.  It comes in three sizes, weighs 4 lbs, and has a weight capacity of 180 lbs for the rider.

Its deck skin is made of polyethylene and is built for durability against strong surf.  Because of this, you can use this board to ride some of the larger and more powerful waves out there.  The HDPE slick is built for flexibility.  Unlike some boards that may be stiff, the Morey Mach 7 is constructed to conform to the curve of the waves around itself.  This makes it easier for the rider to adapt to the waves around them.  Finally, the shape of the tail is crescent which gives it less contact with the wave and in turn offers a smoother, more stable ride.

As you can imagine, this board is one of the heavier boards out there, weighing 5 pounds.  It also has two stringers in its core, which give it greater protection against rough conditions.  It is a rigid and sturdy boogie board that can be used to ride large waves.

#6. Woowave Bodyboard

Woowave Bodyboard

The Woowave bodyboard is a solid choice for those looking to upgrade from one of the cheaper boogie boards you get at a supermarket.  It is more durable, skinnier, and a faster board than those and is priced the way it is for a reason.  Slightly more expensive than the supermarket boogie boards, it does offer a good deal.

The slick bottom makes for a fast ride, but what truly makes this board standout is how lightweight it is.  1.17 pounds for the 33 inch board and only 1.62 pounds for the 41 inch board.  Other perks to this board are that there is a 1 year quality warranty, it comes in multiple styles as it offers five different color options, and it comes with a coiled leash, three wristbands, and even swim fin tethers to keep your swim fins from drifting away.

Features & Specs:

Weight: 1.17 – 1.62 lbs (0.53 – 0.73 kg)

Length: 33 inches (36 and 41 inches also offered)

It is a fast board.  Given its slick bottom and how light it is relative to other boards (in all sizes).
Includes a coiled leash and wristbands (includes two extra wristbands).
Includes swim fins tethers to make sure you don’t lose your swim fins

#7. GYN Trade Bodyboard [Best for kids]

GYN Trade Bodyboard

The GYN Trade Bodyboard is a solid choice for beginners and experienced riders alike.  We don’t recommend this board for highly experienced riders looking to go out into heavier surf often.  However, it’s great for occasional use and gives a solid ride.

There are two big differentiators to this board, first of which is that the board is sealed together through their own heat technology instead of being glued together.  The second is that the deck is slightly different from others.  The deck is made of EPE which is a material that is a bit softer and meant to provide the rider with a better grip.  The board comes with dual channels on the bottom for speed and control, a detachable wrist retention leash, and comes in five different sizes with 10+ colors to choose from.

Features & Specs:

Weight: 1.25 – 2.42 lbs (0.57 – 1.11 kg)

Length: 33 inches (37, 41, 42, and 45 inches are also offered)

Material:

  • Core: EPS
  • Deck: EPE
  • Slick: Plastic

Shape of tail: Crescent

Capacity: 81 – 300 lbs (28 – 140 kg).  this is using Nomad’s board sizing chart to calculate an implied capacity.  The reason this one is so high is because of the max length of 45’’ is longer than the options offered by the other boards.

Different variations offered: 33’’, 37’’, 41’’, 42’’, and 45’’

ProsCons
There are two big differentiators to this board, first of which is that the board is sealed together through their own heat technology instead of being glued together.  Slick is thin vinyl coating compared to other boogie boards that have HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) bottoms.
The deck is slightly different from others, as it is EPE.  It is a bit softer than others and meant to provide the rider a better grip.Board is light and may not hold its structure very well after heavy use in rough conditions.
Comes in five different sizes with +10 different color choices.
The board is made for beginners and experienced riders alike.
Dual channels on the bottom provide for speed and sturdiness.
Includes a detachable wrist retention leash.

#8. Back Bay Play Bodyboard [Cheapest]

Back Bay Play Bodyboard

The Back Bay Play is an example of the cheapest type of boogie boards that you can get from the supermarket usually.  They are great for beginners looking to try out boogie boarding without investing in a board they plan to use for a while.

However, while these boards have similar EPS cores to most of the others, they fall behind in some other areas.  For example, they are extremely light, less than a pound for the 33 inch model and 1 pound for the 41 inches board.  Additionally, this board in particular but also those that are often sold in supermarkets, don’t have a slick bottom.  The material on the bottom of these are generally similar material as the deck.

This makes them slower and less durable.  Having a solid HDPE slick bottom with dual channels is much more effective for speed, control, and durability.  These boards often are used as the baseline benchmark to compare to other higher priced boards to determine whether or not the premium boards were worth the investment.

Features & Specs:

Weight: 0.80 – 1.0 lbs (0.36 – 0.45 kg)

Length: 33 inches (37 and 41 inches are also offered)

Material:

  • Core: EPS
  • Deck: Plastic
  • Slick: Plastic

Shape of tail: Crescent

Capacity: 130 – 200 lbs (59 – 91 kg)

Different variations offered: 33’’, 37’’, and 41’’

ProsCons
CheapNot durable relative to other boogie boards
Extremely lightweight
Doesn’t have any of the added features that other boogie boards have such as a slick bottom
Multiple sizes and color options are offered
Includes a detachable wrist retention leash
The board can be used by children as well as adults
